I'm sure that all of you are aware of my absence in posting, at least by a little. The reason being is that I was busy. Busy trying to make the website better of course! In our current chat room on GeekShed I had a discussion with some of the members about possibly starting an IRC network. So it is not actually "real" yet, but I did give it some effort.
So basically throughout last week and this week I was slowly working my way to getting a stable (working) install of UnrealIRCd and Anope IRC services working, almost without issue. Now I know that some of you probably have set up an IRC server, and probably could do it with your eyes closed. However I didn't have much experience in setting up an IRC server so I was basically working from scratch.
Turns out, even though I had quarks to work out, the test so far has been fairly nice. I have learned the config files for both Unreal and Anope, with me personally finding Anope's config file to be a little bit more user friendly.
Heh Heh...however at first I had trouble with getting Anope to link to the IRCd over localhost, but I got it working. Once it was working, services and Unreal worked like a charm, as they should because Unreal + Anope is a good IRCd-Services pack combination.
Now that I have now gotten this set up, I'll work with my setup a bit further. Don't expect anything real to come out of this, at least at this point in time anyways. In the meantime, the chat room will continue to use GeekShed, the IRC network we use now. If you want to meet the kind folks in the chat, go ahead and click the chat tab at the top of the page.
In the meantime, you guys can pop some suggestions for the name of our first server. I am considering naming it testaway.techmansworld.com because it was the first test server I used for testing the IRCd and services pack.
